    In this article, it talks about how it is entirely possible for tectonic plates to sink below ocean level. In a study done by the University of Texas at Austin, a pacific plate in Japan was observed. The scenario predicted was that some cracks in a tectonic plate could turn downwards, resulting in a sinking plate. Instead of rising when the plate folds under pressure, the weaker part of the plate will sink.

    In this article, it is stating that my hometown, Houston, is one of the fastest sinking cities in the world. While I was confused because the plate in which Houston sits does not suffer from much activity, it's the groundwater pumping that affects what lies beneath.
